Ausom Leopard Electric Scooter Review: An Affordable off-roading scooter

Rate this post

In this review, we will delve into the Ausom Leopard electric scooter, an affordable option for off-road riders. We’ll cover everything from unboxing to real-world off-roading experiences and more. So, stay tuned until the end of the review as we take a closer look.

From the outside of the box, you’ll notice the Ausom branding. Now, let’s proceed with unboxing the scooter. The scooter is carefully packed with foam padding for protection. The scooter accessories can be found above the scooter, while the scooter is located underneath. Additionally, you’ll find a user manual, and it’s advisable to go through it, especially if you’re a beginner.

Additionally, it comes with a foldable seat that you can easily install using the provided multi-tool. Inside the package, you’ll find screws, a wall charger, a small hand pump, a seat mount, a seat post, and a padded seat.

If you’re unsure about how to set up the steering bar, you can follow these steps:

  1. Undo counterclockwise – this involves loosening one of the mounts that utilizes a tube mounting system.
  2. Locate the pin – there’s a pin that needs to be removed to straighten it out. To do this, simply lift the pin and pull it out.
  3. Insert the metal piece – now, insert the metal piece into the designated area to support the steering bar.
  4. Tighten clockwise – finally, tighten it up by turning it clockwise. This will secure the steering bar in place.

Now that we’ve set up the handlebar as shown, additionally, the display can be adjusted. You may need to make some adjustments to ensure that the bracket fits through properly. Once you’ve done that, you can secure everything in place by tightening the screws with a wrench.

Lastly, let’s set up the seat. You’ll need a foldable seat, a seat post, some screws, and five Allen wrenches. Here’s how to install the seat:

  1. The latch should be pointing toward the back of the rear suspension.
  2. Take the five bolts, which already come with thread locker on them (a plus). If not, you can add a bit of thread locker yourself. Position all the screws, and make sure they are securely tightened.
  3. For the seat itself, start by undoing the tensioner. Then, slide the seat through, ensuring it’s straight. Reattach the tensioner. If the tension is too loose, you can tighten it by turning it clockwise, similar to a regular screw, to increase tension.
  4. To fold the seat, simply push it towards the back. Make sure to bring the seat down completely. Then, undo the latch at the bottom. Keep in mind that on the opposite side, there’s a little pin that you need to push to release it. Now you can fold the seat, and it should look like this when you’re finished.

To charge the scooter, you’ll find the charging port at the flat front. Simply lift the small cover, which is spring-powered, and you can insert the charger there.

Since the scooter has a seat, the seating position is lower, and the handlebar is higher. But there’s no need to worry because it comes with an adjustable handlebar. Here’s how to adjust it:

  1. Undo the tensioner.
  2. Press the little pin, and if you do it again, it will go down.
  3. There are three positions provided, so you can set it to your preferred comfort level.

The deck is relatively wide, measuring around 8.3 inches, which may not be comfortable for some riders. In such cases, you can adopt a riding stance with one foot forward and one foot back, especially when riding an off-roading electric scooter. This stance can make you feel more in control and secure while navigating rough terrain.

The LED headlight is exceptionally bright, both during the day and at night, as you can see.

The scooter is equipped with a tail light at the rear and indicators positioned around the scooter, which significantly enhances visibility during both daytime and nighttime riding with its comprehensive lighting setup.

It features both mechanical brakes and disc brakes at the front and rear, providing reliable and effective stopping power. Additionally, the scooter boasts swingarm suspensions at both the front and rear, as we tested, delivering a smooth ride over various terrains.

The Ausom Leopard electric scooter features a bright display that provides information such as range, battery voltage, trips, top speed, and more. The screen remains visible even in bright sunlight.

Additionally, there’s one important detail to note when starting the scooter. First, turn the key on, but you may notice that it’s not powering up. In this case, there’s a button somewhat hidden under the throttle. Press and hold this button for 3 seconds to activate the scooter.

The scooter also comes with a hook for carrying groceries and a backpack, which is quite convenient. Another noteworthy feature is that the hook also functions as a latch at the back, making it easy to transport and carry the scooter when needed.

On the right side of the handlebar, you’ll find the key, which provides security because without the key, you can’t turn on the scooter. Just above the key, there’s a power-on button that allows you to activate the scooter. Above that, you’ll find the throttle control.

On the left side of the handlebar, there’s a switch for turning on/off the headlight, tail light, and turn signal lights. Additionally, you’ll find a horn for signaling.

Design

The Ausom Leopard electric scooter boasts an aggressive appearance with its striking yellow and black color combination, complemented by its rugged off-road tires. The inclusion of LED headlights, tail lights, and turn signals ensures visibility and style both during the day and at night. The swingarm suspensions further enhance its off-road capabilities, giving it the characteristic look of an off-roader electric scooter. Additionally, you’ll find the “Leopard” branding above the kickstand and the “Ausom” branding on the support bar.

Performance

Firstly, we put the Ausom Leopard electric scooter to the test off-road, equipped with the seat, and we have nothing but praise for its performance. We were able to reach top speeds of up to 30-32 mph, and it was remarkably comfortable with the seat while tackling off-road terrain. The swingarm suspension worked impressively well, smoothing out the ride even when going over potholes. When climbing hills, we reached speeds of 17-20 mph. It’s important to note that the 1st mode, with a range of 9 miles, left us in the middle of the hill, but switching to the 2nd mode helped us conquer it, and in the 3rd mode, we easily reached the hill’s peak.

Furthermore, we tested the scooter’s speedometer against a digital app and noticed a slight discrepancy, with the scooter displaying 24 miles while the app showed 21 miles. Some of our teammates even achieved top speeds of 32-34 miles, while one managed an impressive 37 miles, which was quite surprising. We also conducted time-speed tests to see how quickly the scooter could reach its top speed. In the 1st mode (9 miles), it took 8.3 seconds, in the 2nd mode it took 15.3 seconds, and in the 3rd mode, it took 20.3 seconds.

We evaluated its braking system, which includes e-brakes to slow down the motor and mechanical brakes for stopping the scooter entirely. In the 1st mode, the scooter quickly came to a stop, but in the 2nd mode, it took a bit more effort. However, we managed to stop safely on the second attempt. In the 3rd mode, we were able to stop the scooter carefully and safely.

Unfortunately, we did not find a cruise control feature or were unable to activate it. In conclusion, we would like to highlight the scooter’s fantastic suspension, comfortable and cushioned seat, foldability, and excellent tires, all of which greatly contributed to our positive experience.

Final Verdict

The Ausom Leopard electric scooter stands out as an affordable choice for off-roading enthusiasts. It boasts a sturdy frame, a foldable seat, and reliable swingarm suspension. With an impressive range of 52 miles and a top speed of 34 mph, all available at a budget-friendly price of $949, or even better, $899 with our coupon code, it offers exceptional value.

Powered by a robust 1000W brushless motor, this scooter delivers substantial torque, making it well-suited for off-road adventures. While the Ausom Leopard has several strengths, it’s worth considering some drawbacks, including a lengthy 10-hour charging time for its 20.8 kWh battery pack, the absence of cruise control, and the use of mechanical brakes rather than hydraulic ones.

Despite these limitations, our testing indicates that it offers outstanding value for your investment. If you’re seeking an affordable off-roading electric scooter, the Ausom Leopard is a top choice.
